Payments

Chargeback

A card payment reversed by the issuing bank at the cardholder's request, usually after a claim of fraud or of a service not received. The operator loses the deposit, the winnings already paid from it, and a fee, and repeated cases threaten the merchant account itself.

What it means for an operator

Chargebacks in iGaming are rarely about a faulty transaction. They are about a player who lost, a card used by someone else, or a deposit made from an account that should never have passed a check.

The defences are upstream: verify before large deposits, gate money movement on compliance standing, and keep an audit record showing exactly what was known at the moment of the payment. Scalara does all three.
