What the job is

Operators launching under our Anjouan licence trade under our regulatory responsibility. That makes compliance operations a first-party function here rather than a service we resell, and it is the reason this role exists.

Two halves, roughly equal.

The first is the casework. Verification decisions that need a human, source of funds reviews, payout reviews above the threshold, screening alerts, self-exclusion requests, and the questions operators ask when a case is not obvious. You would be the person who decides, and the person who writes down why.

The second half is the part that compounds. Every decision you make by hand is evidence about a rule that could be enforced automatically. Our compliance engine holds a five-tier trust model per player, with thresholds configurable per brand, and a wallet that reads a player's standing before money moves. Your casework is what tells us where those thresholds are wrong. You would work directly with product and engineering to move judgement out of the queue and into the platform.

The first ninety days

Weeks one to three. Learn the licence and the platform. What our licence covers and what it does not, how the tiers work, what the audit trail records, and what an operator can and cannot do for themselves. You will shadow live cases before you own any.

Weeks four to eight. Own the queue. Verification decisions, payout reviews and screening alerts, with a second pair of eyes on anything you flag. By the end of week eight you should be writing the case notes that would go to a regulator without anyone rewriting them.

Weeks nine to thirteen. Bring us the first two rule changes. Pick the two decisions you have made most often by hand, propose the threshold that would have made them automatically, and see it through with product. That is what the job is for.

What we need

  • Two or more years in compliance, financial crime, risk operations or payments operations, in a regulated environment. iGaming, payments, banking or crypto all count.
  • Practical experience of KYC and AML work: identity verification, source of funds, screening and the difference between an alert and a case.
  • Written English that holds up under scrutiny, because your case notes are the evidence.
  • The judgement to be consistent. Two similar players should get the same answer from you in March and in November.
  • Comfort saying no to a commercial colleague, and explaining it in one paragraph.

What we do not need

  • A legal qualification. Our Chief Legal Officer owns licensing and jurisdictional scope. This role is operational.
  • Experience of one specific verification vendor. We use Sumsub for identity and screening, and the tool is the easy part.
  • A background in iGaming specifically, if you have done comparable work elsewhere.
  • Willingness to approve something you do not believe in. If that is what you expect from a compliance job, this one will disappoint you.

Location and working model

Remote within European time zones, or from our engineering base in Serbia if you would rather be with the team. Our commercial presence is in the UAE, the UK and Europe, so occasional overlap with those hours is useful.

Casework needs coverage rather than heroics: predictable hours, a real handover, and a rota for anything time sensitive. You would report to the Chief Legal Officer and work daily with operations, product and the operators themselves.

How to apply

Email contact@scalaralabs.com with the subject line Compliance Operations Specialist.

Send a CV or a profile, and a short account of one case where you had to decide with incomplete information: what you did, what you wrote down, and what you would do differently now.

We read every application. If we are not going to take it further, we will tell you.

One email is the whole application

No form and no account. Tell us what you have built, what you would want to own here, and anything the role itself asks you to send.

We reply within one working day.
